Tears flow as parents write goodbye letters to their new freshmen
In a USC tradition, parents of incoming freshmen are invited to spend part of Move-in Day penning emotional letters to the children they’re about to leave in Los Angeles.

Sure, they’re proud — but there’s nothing more bittersweet than a parent leaving their child at college. In a USC tradition, parents of new freshmen were invited on Move-in Day to write encouraging goodbye letters to their kids; the letters will be delivered to the students once classes are underway. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share special words and thoughts — and, often, to choke back a tear or two.
