This year’s USC summer reading list is another eclectic assortment, from ancient inspiration to contemporary intrigue
Memorial Day weekend means that summer is just around the corner, and you might be looking for a good read or four.
Each year, the USC president shares a summer reading lists with students. It’s always a fascinating assortment with titles ranging from ancient inspiration to contemporary intrigue.
An especially interesting recommendation is The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee. The renowned oncologist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author was the featured speaker at USC’s 135th commencement this month.
Also of note: Home Fire author Kamila Shamsie will speak at Town and Gown on the USC University Park Campus in November.
The reading list goes out to students just before the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the nation’s largest literary and cultural festival, held each spring on the University Park Campus.
The books are not required reading for students, but they provide an opportunity for the university to reflect on them as a community and are available at various retailers.
