HIV/AIDS Cure Research
Paula Cannon, Ph.D., is an associate professor of molecular microbiology and immunology and biochemistry and molecular biology at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. Her research focuses on HIV and related viruses, stem cells and gene therapy. She can comment on the progress of HIV cure research. “The future of HIV research includes pushing the scientific agenda forward to develop new technologies in search of a cure,” said Cannon. “The ability to cure HIV-infected people, as an alternative to a lifetime of drug-taking to keep their virus in check, is part of that vision.” Contact her at (323) 442-1510; or pcannon@usc.edu.

Maternal/Child AIDS Treatment
Andrea Kovacs, M.D., is a professor of pediatrics and pathology and the program director for the Division of Infection Diseases at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. An expert on AIDS treatment and transmission among youth, she can discuss the progress of HIV reserach as well as prevention efforts. “Through research and integrated treatment in the U.S., we have essentially eliminated mother-to-child transmission,” said Kovacs. “We must now focus on the younger generation. Prevention efforts should include expanded HIV testing, increased funding and linkage to treatment needs to be escalated.” Contact her at (323) 226-6447 or akovacs@usc.edu.
