Trojans celebrate legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
The university’s Black Staff and Faculty Caucus presented the annual tribute event.
With a focus on the theme “Grounded in the Dream,” more than 60 students, faculty and staff members gathered inside the Forum at the Ronald Tutor Campus Center on Jan. 23 to honor the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Michèle G. Turner, associate vice president of USC’s Office of Business Opportunity, spoke about King and Thomas Kilgore Jr., the pastor of Los Angeles’ Second Baptist Church. Kilgore helped organize the 1963 March on Washington where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.
The event, emceed by USC Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs Supervisor Damarea Parker, also had a Table Talk Discussion feature led by various USC staff members and an open mic portion where attendees could speak on the topic “This is My Dream.”
The 45th annual King celebration at the university was presented by USC Black Staff and Faculty Caucus.
