Santa Barbara listeners to commercial classical music station KDB (93.7 FM) and KQSC (88.7 FM), the nonprofit public station operated by Classical KUSC, will hear silence at midnight Wednesday, Aug. 27, as the stations go off the air for a few hours while engineers handle the technical details of the swap between the two stations.
When the swap is finished, Classical KUSC will operate classical music programming on the KDB call letters, on its existing 93.7 FM frequency.
The change was announced in February, but needed to be approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). That approval now has been given.
The KQSC frequency will go to public radio station KCRW, based in Santa Monica, which will expand its signal to Santa Barbara.
“If all goes well, we should be back on the air in time for the Morning Show with Dennis Bartel at 6 a.m. Thursday,” said Brenda Barnes, president of USC Radio, which operates Classical KUSC.
