Filmmaker John Singleton among honorees at Black Alumni Association gala

USC President Nikias addresses group as it celebrates its 40th anniversary

The Trojan Family recognized one of its own March 10 as filmmaker John Singleton, a 1990 graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, was among the honorees at the USC Black Alumni Association’s 40th Anniversary and Scholarship Benefit.

Singleton, whose films include Boyz n the Hood and 2 Fast 2 Furious, joined fellow Trojans Reginald Jones-Sawyer ’87, Maulana Karenga PhD ’94, Deara Okonkwo ’08, MAT ’09, EdD ’14, Neftalie Williams ’12, MPD ’14 and Julia Wilson ’91 as honorees.

USC President C. L. Max Nikias also spoke at the event, held at The Ritz-Carlton hotel in Marina del Rey.
