USC is celebrating Latinx Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 with a series of virtual events that include a kickoff celebration, a series of talks about Latinx influence in Los Angeles, and a slew of career development events.

Wednesday, Sept. 15, noon — USC Latinx Heritage Month Kickoff
Join President Carol L. Folt along with USC students, alumni and staff as they celebrate the kickoff to 2021 Latinx Heritage Month. Speakers will discuss topics around the month’s theme of Esperanza – A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope.
Wednesday, Sept 15, 2 p.m. — Being Latinx in Banking
Hear directly from people opening up about their experiences as underrepresented minorities in the banking industry. Experienced professionals will also talk about their career paths and share advice on how to succeed in the industry. Information will be available about internships with Deutsche Bank.
Friday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m. — Almost Citizens: Puerto Rico, the U.S. Constitution and Empire
USC Gould School of Law Professor Sam Erman will deliver a lecture at the prestigious Supreme Court Historical Society’s Inaugural Constitution Day Lecture. Erman, who wrote a book on the subject, will explore the story of Puerto Rico and the constitution following the island nation’s annexation in 1898.
Wednesday, Sept. 22, 4 p.m. — Latinx Stories of Los Angeles
Join USC experts as they talk about how Latinx communities throughout Los Angeles are shaping the city’s culture and history and how they lead struggles for social justice. Speakers scheduled to appear include:
- Natalia Molina, Distinguished Professor of American Studies and Ethnicity
- Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo, professor of sociology
- George J. Sanchez, professor of American studies and ethnicity and history
- Juan De Lara (moderator), associate professor of American studies and ethnicity and director of the Latinx and Latin American Studies Center
