WHAT: Commencement for USC’s first charter high school will take place Sat., June 11 at 6 p.m. PT. The school was the first opened by the Ednovate charter management organization, which USC Rossier School of Education established in 2012, in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

  • The school focuses on combining great teaching and cutting-edge technology to tailor the learning experience to the individual needs of each student.
  • The school is guided by the mission that all students will use their college degrees and careers to make a positive multigenerational change and the goal that 100 percent of graduates will be accepted into a four-year university with a 90 percent persistence rate after their first year.
  • USC East College Prep opened last year in Lincoln Heights, and another school will open in Santa Ana in the fall.
  • More than $4.8 million in grants and scholarship offers have been awarded to the graduating class, including a full-ride Questbridge scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Positive results have led the Los Angeles Unified School District to approve multiple expansions of the Ednovate charter network. It will open two more schools in fall 2017.
