Michele G. Turner Named Director of the USC Office of Black Alumni Programs

April 10, 2007

USC is pleased to announce the appointment of Michele G. Turner as the director of the Office of Black Alumni Programs (OBAP), effective April 9. In her new role, Turner will oversee a myriad of programs to help enhance scholarship opportunities for current USC students and will facilitate outreach to — and support for — African American alumni.

Since the founding of the USC Black Alumni Association (USCBAA) by Dr. Thomas Kilgore in 1976, the USCBAA has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students.

“After a nationwide search, we have found the perfect candidate for this important university leadership position,” said Michael Jackson, USC’s vice president for Student Affairs.

Turner is a USC alumna who received her B.S. degree in business administration in 1981. Turner also received an M.B.A. degree from UCLA and has taken additional professional courses at the Harvard Business School and the University of Virginia. For the past 25 years, she has worked as a successful businesswoman, serving as a senior management consultant for IBM Corporation; chief executive officer for Turner Diagnostic Imaging/HealthReach, Inc.; and vice president and general manager for Metropolitan Radiology, Inc.

Active in the Los Angeles community, Turner has served as president of the board of trustees for Escuela de Montessori Elementary Center; council member for the L.A. County Service Planning Alliance; president of the American Cancer Society, South Central Los Angeles Unit; and executive board member for the Southern California Cancer Regional Control Board. She is also an advisory board member for the United Negro College Fund and a member of the Los Angeles Links, Inc.

“I am honored to have been selected as the director of the Office of Black Alumni Programs,” Turner said. “The Black Alumni Association is an organization that has a rich history of providing scholarships to high-achieving students in need of financial assistance and increasing the awareness of the historical contributions of USC’s African American alumni to professions such as architecture, dentistry, the arts and countless others.”
