Monday’s medal makes Trojan Allyson Felix the most decorated U.S. female track athlete
The track and field standout won silver in the women’s 400-meter at the Summer Olympics
Allyson Felix ’08 won the women’s 400-meter silver medal at the Summer Olympics on Monday to become the most decorated U.S. female track and field athlete ever. Fellow Trojans Delilah Muhammad advanced to the women’s 400m IH semifinals and Tynia Gaither advanced to the women’s 200m semifinals.
Felix’s medal is the eighth won by a Trojan so far at the Rio Games.
Felix had a season-best time of 49.51 and looked like she had caught Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas down the stretch, but Miller leaned so far on her final stride that she stumbled across the line and fell to the track to edge Felix by 0.07 seconds. In winning the silver medal, Felix pushed her career Olympic medal total to seven, more than any other U.S. track and field woman has ever won.
