Parents of new first-generation students get an earful — of helpful advice
Reception offers support for parents of new Trojans who are the first in their family to attend college

For families of first-generation students, the pressures not just on the child: The parents are likely without firsthand experience on how best to support a kid whos the first in the family to attend college. USC experts offered a helping hand right from the start with a First in the Family reception, dinner and panel discussion on Move-in Day Wednesday. Family members heard from fellow parents, a university expert and a current first-generation student. Also sharing advice with the family members: Provost Michael Quick, himself a first-generation college graduate.
