Professor Beau’s inspirational tale to turn up on TV with Cesar Millan

Professor Beauregard Tirebiter, widely known as “Beau,” has come a long way since his arrival at USC last summer. Officially hired as the university’s wellness dog, Beau’s pupularity has skyrocketed on and off campus. Now he’s set to appear on the debut of Cesar Millan’s Dog Nation, a new series premiering March 3 on Nat Geo Wild.

In June 2016, the Office for Wellness and Health Promotion, under USC Student Affairs, added the 2-year old black goldendoodle to the staff. With service animal training, Beau was brought to the University Park Campus to help students feel more connected with their peers, communities and the university. On his arrival, OWHP Director Paula Lee Swinford knew that Beau would help create a stronger sense of community at USC — and that’s exactly what he’s been doing.

During the fall semester, Beau held “office hours” in the Student Wellness Lounge (Suite 203 of the USC Engemann Student Health Center), where students relaxed, played and lounged alongside Beau. In addition, countless requests from various departments have taken Beau all over campus this semester.

Beau’s popularity also grew outside the university — within the first few weeks of his appearance, he was featured on both cable and local television. ESPN’s SportsCenter featured Beau as part of their “Top 10 Plays” during a prime-time segment. In addition, KABC-TV visited Beau for a segment during the daytime news.

And now the time has arrived for another cable TV spotlight. Renowned dog behaviorist Millan and his son Andre are teaming up on a road trip across America to find the  country’s most inspirational canine stories. In the premiere of Dog Nation, Andre Millan visits USC to see the impact Beau has on his Trojans and the USC community.
