USC resources for first-generation students help inspire budding journalist

Tomás Mier keeps busy with a double-major, Topping Scholar activities and his job as managing editor of the Daily Trojan

With USC’s third annual First-Generation College Student Summit set for Feb. 2, Tomás Mier — the first in his family to attend college — shares his journey to USC on his way to becoming a professional journalist. A double-majoring in journalism at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and Contemporary Latino and Latin American Studies at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, Norman Topping Scholar and managing editor of the Daily Trojan, Mier talks about how the opportunities and resources available at the university have affected him.
