USC on Wednesday announced the appointment of Carol Kim as vice president, enrollment management, effective Feb. 25.

“Carol is a visionary global-enrollment strategist known for building transformative programs from the ground up, creating international partnerships and expanding access through innovative recruitment and financial aid models,” USC Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Andrew T. Guzman wrote in an email to the university community. “In her new role, she will lead USC’s enrollment strategy and continue our efforts to advance our commitment to academic excellence and access.”

Kim joins USC from New York University, where she oversees recruitment, admissions and financial aid across that university’s global network of campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, Shanghai and other global sites. As the vice president of global recruitment, admissions and financial aid, and with a team of 172 professionals, she has presided over the annual review of 120,000 applications and the oversight of a financial aid budget of over $500 million. Among her many other achievements, Kim successfully implemented the NYU Promise, a tuition-free program for families earning under $100,000.

Prior to joining NYU, Kim served as senior vice provost of enrollment management and strategic partnerships and senior vice president for global partnerships at The New School, a private research university in New York City. Kim’s leadership at NYU and The New School reshaped those institutions’ global admissions and financial aid practices while continuing to advance access and institutional sustainability.

New USC vice president, enrollment management: Inaugural positions

Kim’s 25-plus-year career in higher education includes several inaugural positions, such as vice president of international relations at the California Institute of the Arts, where she led global strategy and launched the school’s first online course, and vice president of planning and communications for YueCheng Education in Beijing.

Kim holds a doctor of education from the University of Pennsylvania and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from NYU. She is a graduate of Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education.

Timothy Brunold, who has served as interim vice president for enrollment management for more than a year, will continue to lead the office until Kim’s arrival. Brunold, who will continue as dean of admission, will take on the addition role of special advisor to the provost.
